Here are some spreads from the 2012 Goodwill Annual Report. Segovia Design was responsible for concept, art direction, design and location photography. The concept revolved around real staff and authentic narratives about how Goodwill affects their lives or the community.
Here is an example of one of the photography shoots. Segovia needed to capture authentic portraits of staff working in their environment. The ReUse Centre Manager was shot digitally with the Canon 5DMkII, 50 f1.4. In order to balance ambient light of the warehouse and the lighting of the subject, flash lighting was needed to illuminate the main subject (manager). Flashes were mounted outside of the camera frame, on stands with umbrellas. Lights were triggerred using wireless radio technology (Pocket Wizards). The key to this kind of shooting is balancing ambient levels with flash exposure as well as dealing with the difference in white balance of the 2 main light sources.
